Free for All: The Public Library explores how public libraries have played a pivotal role in shaping America, acting as sanctuaries of knowledge, equality, and access for all citizens.
The film traces the origins of the "Free Library Movement," led by pioneering women, and highlights the librarians of today who continue this legacy despite challenges such as library closures and book bans. It celebrates the story of these quiet revolutionaries who created and continue to uphold a civic institution where everyone, regardless of background or means, can access information and resources for free.
Following the documentary, local librarians will discuss the current state of our libraries and the ways that they are evolving to meet the needs of our communities.
Presented in partnership with Ohio University Chillicothe and WOUB Public Media.
Sometimes, library events are held offsite at locations around the community. You might find us with a storytime at Yoctangee Park, or a book club at the local coffee shop!
