Northside Branch Renovation

Northside Branch Renovation

Big things are happening at the Northside Branch! Starting December 9, the library will temporarily close its doors to begin some much-anticipated renovations to make the space even better for our community. We can’t wait to share the refreshed and improved library with you when we plan to reopen in early April 2025.

During the closure, we invite you to explore all the amazing resources and services available online as well as other CRCPL branch locations. Whether it’s browsing our eLibrary, attending events, or picking up your next favorite read at another location, we’ve got you covered! We are committed to providing the best services possible during this time and will continue to provide updates and news on this page throughout the renovation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the renovation start and finish?
Outdoor renovations have already begun. Indoor building renovations will begin December 9, 2024 and are expected to be completed by April 2025.

Will the library be open during the renovation?
The library will be closed during the indoor building renovations, but services and programming will continue at the other branches.

Where can I access library services during the renovation?
Library materials can be accessed at any of the other branches. Printing and faxing services are available at Main Library.

How will the renovation impact library programs and events?
The branches will continue to offer their normal programming, which anyone in the community can attend. Our Adult and Youth Services will be providing their specific programming at the Main Library.

What new features can we expect after the renovation?
The renovations include a revamped parking lot with accessible parking spots closer to the entrance, a new roof, a new HVAC unit, new paint and carpet, adding additional outdoor entrances, and relocating the Teen space.

Why is the renovation necessary?

The library needs essential upgrades to all major systems, including the heating and cooling systems, the electrical system, the roof, sewer pipes, and making sure that the building is handicapped accessible.

How is the renovation being funded?

The library is using funds approved in the 2024 budget to pay for the updates. The library’s budget is established annually, based on the state’s Public Library Fund and a local $1.5M levy. CRCPL also invests and saves money year over year to pay for larger projects such as this one.

Will there be any disruptions to services?
While the Northside branch is closed, most services will continue at other locations. In an effort to continue services to patrons who might be unable to make it to another location, our Bee Mobile Library will be visiting twice a week and we will have a 24/7 book locker available for all holds. For a list of programs, visit our Events page

How can I stay informed about the renovation progress?

Stay updated through our website, social media channels, and regular updates sent to local media.

Who is involved in the renovation project?

Whenever possible, CRCPL uses local contractors and suppliers. However, as a publicly funded agency, the library follows the State of Ohio’s public bidding process. For this project, the library contracted Johnson-Laux Construction for project management, and most of the interior work will be performed by ProCon Professional Construction Services. Various trade contractors, including B & B Roofing and BJ’s Electric, will handle industry-specific tasks.
