In this inclusive 8-week program for adults aged 55 and up, participants will learn how to use batik resist technique on a tote bag in a fun, creative, and supportive environment.
No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided for these eight classes. The program will conclude with participants sharing their completed batik-inspired tote bags with the community in the library's exhibition space. Registration is required.
The Ohio Arts Council’s Creative Aging Ohio: Building Bridges to Sustain Communities initiative funds this program through grants from the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and E.A. Michelson Philanthropy.
Meet the artist:
Jessica Held is a painter and photographer based in Athens, Ohio. As a practicing artist, she actively creates, exhibits, and publishes her work. She has extensive experience as a visiting, resident, and teaching artist. In addition to her artistic practice, Jessica runs her small business, Flux and Function LLC, where she creates functional art available online and in local shops in Ohio and West Virginia. She also serves as the Community Marketplace Coordinator for the annual Ohio Pawpaw Festival in Albany, Ohio. Recently, she collaborated with Athens, Ohio’s poet laureate to publish a pawpaw inspired anthology. Jessica is passionate about fostering creativity and community engagement through her various roles.
You can do it all at the Main Library.
